SF Citadel Sex Club Review

INTRODUCTION:

If you find yourself in San Francisco's Tenderloin, he might be there to catch a show at the Great American Music Hall, some cool art at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, taking your kids on a field trip to the Children's Creativity Museum, or heck, you might just be buying groceries at Whole Foods Market. There's a building that you might not know about, called SF Citadel.

Citadel is one of San Francisco's hottest sex clubs, and a club that I have check out for a long time. So one weekend when I was in the neighborhood, without much to do, I decided it was time to finally see what Citadel was all about.

There is a leather party happening, and unfortunately I didn't have my bondage gear with me, so on account of my unpreparedness, I entered the party in my birthday suit, looking for a dominatrix to punish me for my stupidity.

I arrived to the club little bit earlier than most it seemed, so I stuck out more than I probably would have usually, and was able to receive some very special attention by one of the club's veteran members.

ABOUT:

San Francisco is of course known for being one of the most sexually adventurous and welcoming cities in the world. It's LGBTQ+ community is one of the largest in the world, and their Pride celebrations are those of legend.

That said, there's always more that a city's residents can do in order to increase the inclusivity and open-mindedness of their community. It's that sort of thinking that the owners of SF Citadel had in mind when they opened the club. Their mission statement states that they provide a safe space for alternative lifestyles, leather events, as well as cultural events that relate to the betterment of more sexually adventurous or oppressed communities. Where in some clubs, you may not feel comfortable because of certain members, at SF Citadel, all members are held to a high standard of behavior. The club even has its own consent committee!

With multiple spaces to use, and an event calendar so full that it seems like it's rare for the club too be shut more than 1 day a week, this is one of the most popular sex clubs in San Francisco with good reason.

The club not only offers parties where you can let your freak flag fly, but it also offers educational events to the community, so that if there are fetishes that you're interested in trying, you can learn how in a safe and knowledgable space.

The space is also available for rent if you're looking for a kinky space to throw your own event.

CONCLUSION:

I bet you can already guess what I'm going to say as my conclusion. I had a great first time at SF Citadel, and if you have even a passing interest in BDSM, I encourage you to check out their calendar to see if there's a class, or maybe smaller party to dip your toe in for your first time. The membership is a strong and supportive one though, and I saw a couple beginners at the party I went to, who seemed a little nervous about being here, and the senior members handled them with kid gloves, making sure they had a safe and fun experience.

And even though the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art is just up the street from the club, SF Citadel often has art shows featuring the art of their members, or of art relevant to BDSM. There's an show happening in a few weeks that I'm going to go to, in the hopes that it's the first of many shows I see there. There's so much great bondage art out there, and not many spaces to see it.

Pros
  • First of all, I have to give a huge 'thank you' to the staff of SF Citadel for allowing me to attend their bondage party without a single piece of leather on me. Of course I would have felt more comfortable in some leather underwear, but the added embarrassment of having to be naked in front of the entire club immediately, added to the excitement of it all.

The club itself is a really wonderful space, that like I mentioned, prides itself on being multi-purpose, and catering to many different BDSM and associated community groups.

There are open play parties, which is typically more my speed, so I'l definitely be going back to check one of those out in the near future.

One of my favorite parts of SF Citadel was that they have a light up dance floor, with two Saint Andrew's Crosses right in the middle of it. That sort of playful presentation is something that I think a lot of BDSM clubs and nights could take note of. The BDSM community tends to be populated by a lot of goths n my experience, which often means that you're playing in a dungeon that's can become hard on your eyes. Many a night at BDSM clubs, have I walked out of the dungeon, only to be blinded by the lights of the lobby. To have multi-colored light up floor tiles surrounding dungeon furniture was a lot of fun.

The staff was fantastic, and I was impressed by how attractive most of the people at the party were.

Cons
  • There aren't that many things I can think of to complain about SF Citadel. I think maybe one of the biggest things for me is that they're closed on Sundays. I know that Friday and Saturday are typically people's weekend evenings, but I work on Fridays, so Sunday is essentially my Saturday, and I'm always hoping for more things to throw a wild party on a Sunday night. That's obviously a little selfish, and I don't expect BDSM clubs in San Francisco to switch up their schedules so I can get whipped into the wee hours of the night more than once a weekend.

The definition of "wee hours of the night" is another thing that perhaps I would knock SF Citadel for. Closing at 1AM on the weekend is a little bit early for my liking. I know there are a lot of older members of the BDSM and leather communities who might not want to stay out until 4AM, but there definitely is enough young people in the scene to justify staying open until at least 2AM so that we can get a few more licks in before it's time to go home.

Other than those two minor issues though, SF Citadel is a tremendous club, and I think you'll have a great time if you find yourself in the neighborhood with your leather on.
