House of Scorpio NYC Sex Club Review

INTRODUCTION:

Now that being in an open relationship is a lot more accepted, the doors have blown wide open for the types of swinging experiences that you can have. Sure you can still attend the now traditional sex clubs, which cater to a heteronormative audience where people just swap partners on couches in the back area of a club. But more alternative opportunities are opening up, and youngish people (and some just young at heart) are incorporating a lot of education, awareness and the LGBTQ community in general.

It should be no surprise that New York is at the forefront of these changes. Now let's be clear, of course the most basic and direct goal is for everyone to be able to get their rocks off at a fun get-together in Brooklyn, but the House of Scorpio is committed to offering a lot more for the swinging and pansexual community of the city.

Keep reading below to learn everything you need to know about the House of Scorpio, here on EasySex.com!

ABOUT:

House of Scorpio is located in central Brooklyn, and it definitely tries to do many thing in the world of modern sexuality. Not just a sex club (in fact, it barely uses that term, instead using 'play party' to describe events), but also an education and culture centre when it comes to sexuality in general.

As this is the 21st century, you are going to start on their website, and absorb a tremendous amount of helpful information that shows how committed they are to offering a sex-positive experience for everyone, not just straight people. At their pansexual Lip-Service Parties, you should be expected to maybe get a little touchy-feely with some people who are the same sex as yourself, or someone who is queer or trans (and as the site says, if that's not your thing, please don't attend this particular event). Not every event is set up like this, and certainly consent and comfort is at the heart of their ethos (which they've taken from the Kinky Salon) but House of Scorpio wants to be known as a place where everyone in the community can have some fun. This also means its essential that you under stand the PAL system, which means no one comes to these events alone (excluding classes), and you are responsible for your partner's behaviour at the event and vice-versa, and you leave together.

There are five levels of membership available, ranging from $5 to $55 per month, and the more you pay, the more money the event tickets are discounted by. That means that an event which could cost $50 for a guest in good standing could be up to half price off for you. Clearly, the membership plan you choose should be based on how many events (including classes) you think you'll be able to attend.

FEATURES:

-located as part of the Gemini and Scorpio loft in the Gowanus neighborhood in Brooklyn, close to several subway stations

-has been hosting parties for nearly a decade

-monthly membership fees range from $5 to $55, with the more money you pay, the more of a discount you will get on ticket prices for the events

-age restriction is twenty one years and older, although for some events they do suggest twenty five

-like the Kinky Salon in San Francisco, they have adapted the PAL (Pervy Activity Liaison) system for their events, to make sure everyone feels safe, as it demands that you must come as a couple (i.e., you always have a 'pal')

-dress code is alternative based, so no golf shirts or khakis, as they'd like you to dress a lot stranger and sexier

-the venue is also a multi-use artspace when not hosting House of Scorpio parties, and they put on puppet shows, circus events, burlesque shows, and much more

-beyond makeout parties and naughty theme-events, they now host several classes throughout the year that range from basic oral sex tips to the several types of bondage (Decorative, Restrictive, Alternative)

-in addition to classes, they also have an erotic book club that you can join (sometimes it becomes an erotic film club, but it's not pornography)

-they offer a private rooftop smoking area

-easy to follow the latest updates with the venue and the community by using their Facebook, instagram, and twitter feeds

CONCLUSION:

Of course a loft in Brooklyn is going to do a sex club just a little bit differently. I mean, yes, the House of Scorpio certainly does have play party events where once midnight rolls around the clothes and inhibitions are slowly removed, but there's also a book club. And several classes (Bedroom Badass) that are meant to give advice to enhance your fun in the bedroom (or play parties), from anal sex basics to impact play. All of this means that if you want to see the future of a sex-positive community, look no further than the House of Scorpio.

Pros
  • This ain't your parent's sex club, that's for sure. The House of Scorpio certainly has a typical name for a place where arousing activities might go on all night, but they've worked very hard to bring a very wide and diverse community of open-minded swingers together. While people of every gender, orientation identity they feel most comfortable with have typically had to find their own path, House of Scorpio really just wants to bring everyone together in a big hug. That alone is a plus that should go a long way, because this is the sort of inclusivity that all swingers should embrace, even if their own particular desires aren't exactly the same.

Social issues slightly aside, coming here with your PAL is just a heck of a lot of fun. One of the best things about having a staff and community that is so positive about what they're doing, is that they're going to host great parties, and do everything in their power to make sure they go off without a hitch. That means it's going to be clean, there's going to be a ton of fun and flirty people there who are well-behaved and super-positive, and there's going to be a ton of soft pillows and massage tables for everyone once the clock strikes midnight and the play really begins.

The more events you attend, you even start to pick up their own lingo: Under Cover is their Thursday mixer and intro night, Bedroom Badass are the classes, Countdown are play parties, and BYOKink are the fetish play parties. it is very easy to become part of this community, and part of that has a lot to do with how affordable it is to become a member. As low as $5 monthly, and that still lets you have a discounted price on event tickets. They also encourage you to volunteer at some events, which I think is a great way to give back.

Cons
  • Well for all the steps they've taken to offer a different sort of sex club experience, I suppose some people might find the whole thing a bit long-winded and complicated, who don't want to really have to worry about what PAL stands for. If House of Scorpio is a new sex club, then I'm sure there are some people who pine for the good old days (and hey, they can go check out some of the older places here in NYC).

Personally, the only thing that I got stressed out a bit over is the dress code, where even for non-theme events they don't want you to come as if it's a business meeting. That means no khakis or pantsuits. Something a bit kitschy is also acceptable if you don't have leather gear ready to go.

The loft where these events take place have many non-swinging, non-sexual events throughout the week, so get the dates right. Make sure you know which events you're attending, otherwise you might be disappointed at swing-dancing lessons.
