INTRODUCTION:
New York City has always had a vibrant gay community, and as many of them had to live under fear of persecution and isolation for far too long, one of the staples for where to meet has been the bathhouse. One of the oldest still operating in Manhattan is Eastside Club NYC, which opened back in 1976. And lest you think it's become some sort of cultural institution, it hasn't, it's remained a bathhouse all this time, where anonymous men can meet up to relax and hook up in the sauna and private rooms available for rent (and as per the complaints from staff, they definitely prefer you to keep the shenanigans in the public areas to a minimum).

ABOUT:
If you're coming to the Eastside Club NYC, its reputation precedes it with the simple acknowledgment that it's been around for over forty years. And that means that no matter how many renovations they do, it's still going to feel old. Now that shouldn't stop you from coming here, because you are aware of its age, you're in a good position to kick back and relax at this very popular bathhouse.
Membership is a decent $40 for the year (if you're just visiting, it's $15, but that's good for five visits in a one month period), but the rentals for lockers and rooms can get a bit pricey ($25 and $28 on weekends, respectively), even if you factor in the acknowledgment that everything's a bit more expensive in New York. They do offer rooms or $75 that include in and out privileges, which means you can almost use it as a makeshift hotel room, although it's certainly small. A good way to save some money is using the online coupons, which you have to print out and present to staff upon arrival, so you can save up to 40% for locker and room rental.
Walking around the club and you'll find it surprisingly spacious and taking up several floors, with most of the private rooms on the second. It's fairly important that you rent one, or hook up with someone who has rented one, because technically there is not a lot of play allowed in the more public areas like the lounge, or even the sauna (although many would say this is just a ploy by management to get you to buy a room, a lot of the times, you'll still want to eventually take the action to a room).
