Hunk O Mania isn't just a male strip club, it's a male strip club phenomenon. And before you think that sounds like a press release, it's not. To be honest, I hadn't heard much about it, even though my friend who planned the birthday party said there was a bunch of them across the country, kind of based on the movie, 'Magic Mike'. Now I've been to a couple strip clubs kind of as a joke with my guy friends, but Hunk O Mania blows them all out of the water because everyone is having so much more fun. It looks just like a strip club, but it's not just a bunch of quiet, uptight guys watching a bunch of women slowly grinding on a stripper pole. At Hunk O Mania, it's like a Vegas style revue, with really hot guys doing actual dancing and acrobatics and a crazy stage show. And all the women there - probably most of them are parties like ours - are all cheering and going crazy. It was super high energy and sexy, without being gross.

That said, it's still a strip club in a lot of ways, where you have to buy tickets (which you should do online ahead of time, not at the door, because that's more expensive), buy drinks, buy swag, and buy lap dances. There really is a lot of pressure to buy, but because most people are here for parties, it's kind of expected from the start of the night. And some of the things you can get are hilarious, like penis cakes.

-VIP group tickets must be bought online and can start at $500 for 6 people, and then go higher depending on the size of the party, but it guarantees seating closest to the stage and fast entry (with the option of adding a penis cake or a chance to sit onstage)

-seating chart gives a great overview of the club layout

-if a bachelorette or birthday party has a least five people, the bachelorette or birthday girl gets in free

-you can buy tickets online, which is actually recommended, since many nights sell out

-part of a national touring company of Hunk O Mania locations across the country, meaning you can be guaranteed that the quality will be excellent

-the 'audience participation' segment is both hilarious and arousing

-they have their own line of souvenir swag, from t-shirts to undies to mugs

-website has a great collection of news stories and articles about the franchise

-if you do want to rent a stripper for your own off-site event, you can do so through the website ('rent-a-hunk", where the price is based on how far from the club the dancer would have to travel, starting at $200 and going up to $400)

CONCLUSION:

The adult entertainment world needs more Hunk O Mania, or at least a lot more shows like it, whether they feature men or women. Now that won't be cheap, because Hunk O Mania isn't, but the rewards of having an actually fun and exciting and energetic sex show would be huge. Maybe you can find that in Vegas, but there has to be an audience for it in other big cities.

I kind of assumed that male strip clubs were going to sadder and sleazier than their female counterparts, but instead it was the reverse. Even if the show doesn't change that often, you owe it yourself to at least check it out once, whether you're a woman or man (and I would pay a lot more than just cover to see what would happen if they dragged a guy onstage for a dance!).

Pros

  • If Hunk O Mania is kind of like the McDonald's of male strip clubs, I don't mind, serve me up more of those beefcakes. And as cheesy as that line is, it's the kind of fun you're going to have at this show. And it really is a show, in the sense that it has a start time, runs for two hours, and is pretty much choreographed from start to finish. .The professionalism is so far ahead of anything you might see at any other strip club, whether it's men or women onstage. The energy of the dancers is infectious, and it practically becomes a rock concert. And I think it's because the owners know that by getting very close to dirty but not all the way there that they aren't going to scary away a large chunk of their audience by having 'too much' dick-wagging during the show. Even the segment where they brought members up from the audience to get a lap dance was more hilarious than dirty (okay, it was a bit of both).

    Because of it's professionalism, the place can be a bit expensive, but it's great how you can save a ton of money by buying tickets online in advance (regular tickets at the door are $45, whereas it's only $25 online).

Cons

  • Even though it's a great show, It's the same one every night, as far as I can tell. They certainly don't change it very often. It's the same show across the country, because while I first saw it in Boston, I saw it almost a year later in Vegas (bachelorette party this time), and it was basically the same thing. Although I suppose there's really not much you can actually change up when it comes to stripping. At least the audience members they bring up onstage are always different, so you don't know how that's going to go.

    I think their promotion of it being a lot cheaper to buy tickets online has almost blown up in Hunk O Mania's face, because they really are trying to make money everywhere else. There's a two drink minimum that is required on top of admission, and they can be expensive ($12 for a small plastic cup of cranberry vodka). Adding on a bottle of grey goose or something else premium can be hundreds of dollars, and while the penis cake is hilarious, you might not find it worth $100.
