First things first, yes, despite the name, The Golden Banana is a totally nude strip club that features exclusively women. While not in Boston, it's certainly easy to get to by car, as it's right where Highway 1 meets I-95. It's been in business for awhile, and is actually quite proud of the fact that it's been able to keep up with the changing times, although that typically means they've put up flat screen TVs and let the strippers get fully nude and put on a bit of a soft-core show every night. Which is absolutely great, since that's what brings people in, and they're open seven days a week, with plenty of specials during the weekdays (ladies get in free before 10PM on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and there's free admission if you wear sports swag on game night).

Weekends, though, are when The Golden Banana really rise to the occasion. The occasional pole dance contests show that there's a lot more to a great stripping routine than just taking off your clothes. Every so often they'll even have a professional adult star from Los Angeles fly up for three nights of shows (I saw the Tyler Faith one, and it was incredible, totally worth the slightly higher price of admission). The place is very clean and the staff is excellent, and you can tell that the owners can afford that by charging a bit more for drinks than other strips clubs in the area, but hey, you get what you pay for.

CONCLUSION:

Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name…but that means you'll probably have to go The Golden Banana at least a couple times before the bouncers and dancers remember you. Fortunately, it's one of those few strips clubs in the Boston area that's worth regular visits, and not just on weekends, but weekdays, too, thanks to some better than average deals on cover and drinks.

No matter who wins the game that night, thanks to the deal where you get in free just wearing sports swag, this is always a great stop after a Bruins or Red Sox game (it's a bit far if you're down in Foxboro, though). The drinks and the staff will see to that you're being well taken care of. When it comes to being a classy strip club where the beautiful ladies will show you everything, The Golden Banana certainly shines and rises to the occasion.

Pros

  • The best thing about the The Golden Banana that sets it apart from other strip clubs in the area (some of which are literally just down the road) is the friendly staff and clean bathrooms, and don't think for a second that it's a weak plus, because it's not, it's great. A friendly staff at a strip should always be appreciated more than it is, because that means they're looking out for you, not trying to fleece you at every minute. If you can actually chat a bit with the bouncer or bartender, that means they're in a good mood, which means they're being treated well, and that means the dancers are, too, which means they're gonna be in a good mood and not be too pushy about giving you a dance. In other words, everyone has a much better time when the staff is friendly, and that's the key to a great strip club night.

    Clean bathrooms, though, doesn't have to really be elaborated on. That's always great.

    Other perks at The Golden Banana range from the nice touch of having an actual dance cage right in the Champagne room, to the much more laid-back (and cheaper) amateur night, where any woman who's brave enough to give it a shot to dance around the pole for our pleasure deserves some bills and applause. It's also great to find a place where dancers actually get fully nude (although not necessarily on amateur night). A lot of places don't explicitly say whether they offer this or not, so you really don't know how far a striptease is going to go.

Cons

  • To have a friendly staff and clean bathrooms, you have to pay for them somehow, and since they offer quite a few discounts at the door, the trade off is that the drinks are expensive, even if it's just soda. Similarly, dances can range from $30 to $60 depending on which area you're getting it in, so it's best to quickly decide on a price with the lady before she starts.

    The pricing can be particularly frustrating if you come on a Tuesday or Wednesday night, when the place is not nearly as busy (like a lot of strip clubs, to be honest), both in terms of people in the chairs or dancers onstage. And that can make a difference, since I've been there on some slow nights where the dancers seemed to love the music (which meant the crowd liked the music), and I've been there on nights where it was clear they didn't like the music, which meant no one did.

    If you're from central Boston in can be a bit of trek getting up here if you don't have a car (and even if you do, there's traffic to contend with if you're coming here around rush hour), so that can add a bit to your expenses even before you get to the club. I think it would be a big plus if they comped the non-alcoholic drinks for the obvious designated driver, if everyone else is buying booze.
