Cabaret Lounge Boston Sex Club Review

INTRODUCTION:

Someone said 'the more things change, the more they stay the same', but that doesn't really apply to strip clubs. Some strip clubs have definitely changed with the times, bringing more elaborate stage shows, tidying up the place, offering better food and drink options, and flying in top-tier talent from across the country (usually Las Vegas or Los Angeles).

And some strip clubs haven't done any of those things. Some places have stayed entirely the same, and that's not a knock, but instead a sort of compliment. it's great to have a chance to step into the way-back machine and see how people partied decades ago, and find that there isn't really that much different other than a new coat of paint and drink prices. if you want to kick with the oldest possible school that involves naked women, then you owe it to yourself to drive up to the Cabaret Lounge in Peabody, about thirty minutes north of Boston.

ABOUT:

Both words in the name Cabaret Lounge suggest a strip club from the seventies, which is pretty much perfect, since that's when this place first opened, and it seems like the owner hasn't bothered to tinker with success. It feels like you're walking into a place that doesn't want to hear any of that new-fangled disco music, and you can tell by the decor on the walls, the unintentionally dim lighting, and very basic stage that they're keeping it simple. Heck, just by allowing jeans really says a lot about the clientele they're comfortable with (why stop at home? Come right from the work site).

One thing that will definitely make you feel like you travelled back in time is the prices. $10 is pretty good for cover, but the thing is, the only start charging after 7PM between Tuesday and Saturday, which means that most of the time, entry is free (of course, it's during the hours when the place is pretty darn dead). The drinks are pretty well-priced, too, since any strip club that charges under ten bucks for a pint gets a thumbs up in my book. The staff (whether servers or strippers) are well aware of the kind of place they're working in, and are much more relaxed, without that kind of hustle for tips. And that means you're more relaxed, so you stay longer, and spend more money, anyway. It's a much better setup.

That's not to say there's no effort at all here. The occasional costume parties are a lot of fun (you don't have to dress up, but it's nice to see that the dancers do), and the massages that are offered are also a nice touch that sets it apart from a lot of other clubs in the region.

CONCLUSION:

It's clear that the Cabaret Lounge is not going to be everyone's cup of tea, pint of beer, or grind on lap. But the fact that they've stayed in business all this time means they know what their customers want, and they're going to give it to them. The adult entertainment business can be a tough one, so if you can be yourself and succeed, don't bother changing (except cleaning the bathroom regularly, that's really helpful).

Over time, a rapport between the customers and the staff develops, even as both individual members of the groups slowly move on. Everyone knows what they want in terms of the dances and the drinks and even the decor, and the Cabaret Lounge has been able to strike that balance for decades. Stepping inside is going back in time, but you can still have a great night no matter what the year.

Pros
  • They may not have invented the time machine, but if you want to know how New England dudes partied in the seventies, you don't need one, you just have to come to the Cabaret Lounge. They could have filmed any gangster movie in the seventies or eighties here, when they needed a strip club scene. It feels like you're walking into a place where some very tough people made some very tough decisions, and whether that makes you fall in love with a place like this, or makes you want to head right out the door says a lot about whether you'll enjoy the place.

So the vibe is practically one of a kind, and I enjoyed looking around at everything when I took my eyes off the stage for a moment (even the stage entrance for the strippers are tassel curtains!). The atmosphere here is definitely part of the attraction.

Fortunately, so are the women. The dancers here have not been here from the beginning, thankfully, but they are definitely relaxed and down to earth and will enjoy having a bit of small talk with you before asking if you'd like a lap dance. You can tell that they're well aware of the style and feeling of the place, and this extends to the staff as well, who are much less uptight than a lot of other strips clubs. Everything moves a bit of a slower pace, but that's part of its charms, especially because the prices for everything are pretty good. Not as good as 70s prices, but the drinks aren't too expensive, and it's nice that there's no cover at all before 7PM is great.

The one thing they have thankfully modernized, though, are the bathrooms, which are quite clean. The beer taps are pretty up to date, too. Nice to get guinness in a glass.

Cons
  • To put it simply, this place is old, and it looks old, and it feels old. And as much as I praised the place for not changing very much up above, I know for a fact that some people are going to walk in here, look around, and then walk right out and ask for their cover charge back, because it's not their thing at all. If you want a Vegas style extravaganza for your adult entertainment, this isn't it. Heck, it's happened when I've walked in here with friends and one of them muttered to me, 'dude, this place is sketch'. And while i was able to convince him to stay, it definitely feels a sketchy. Not a dangerous sort, obviously, but certainly there's a weird seventies vibe going on, since it was open back then.

So with that comes some other obvious drawbacks. While it's nice that they offer some food choices, I'd suggest skipping on most of the menu other than wings, which seems to be the safest choice for grub at all strip clubs.

Like a lot of strip clubs, this is just a warning that even though it opens at noon, it's pretty darn dead during the day. You can't be expecting a party atmosphere - or more than one dancer onstage - on a Tuesday afternoon.

Getting here can be a bit of a pain if you're coming from Boston, especially during rush hour, which is pretty much any time after 4PM. Whatever money you're saving on cheaper cover and drinks, you might lose in gas or uber. And if you do take your own car, park close to the building, because the back part of the parking lot can flood.
