INTRODUCTION:
If you're a lesbian or bisexual woman, there's a good chance that you already know AfterEllen.com. It's one of the most successful lesbian and bi pop culture blogs around. It's where we get the majority of our pop culture news, hot takes on celebrity autobiographies, celebrity gossip (though somehow not even After Ellen has been able to give a definitive report on who Janelle Monae is dating!!), and lesbian lifestyle tips.
But considering the amount of traffic that After Ellen gets on its blog, a proportionately small number of the site's readers also use the site's forums, which if you know anything about LGBT-specific forums, even if they don't advertize themselves as such, these forums are undeniably LGBT dating forums.
And don't get me wrong when I say that there aren't that many readers on the forum. There are PLENTY of them, and the forum is hopping at almost any hour of the day, given the site's global reach.
I signed up for my free membership with relative ease, and dove right into the forum, trying to find the best sub-forums to flirt with other members in. In a move that I'm not particularly proud of (actually... I sort of am), I discovered that a fantastic spot to flirt is in the forum's "Does She Like Me?" section, where members who're insecure about whether or not their crushes feel the same way, share long and desperate stories of being ignored.
AfterEllen.com is a part of most of our daily internetting. But find out about their secret hookup forum in this LGBT Dating Forum Review on EasySex.com!
ABOUT:
AfterEllen.com may be best known as a blog, but after a couple weeks of using their forums, I'm a firm believer that it might not be too long before the forums take off and become almost as popular as the blog is.
We've all experienced how bad the comments sections of blogs can be, so to have a forum where a select group know to go and discuss articles without the trolls, is heavenly. There are fantastic discussions about just about every topic under the sun that relates to being a lesbian or bi woman.
There are general sub-forums for Movies, TV, and documentaries, but then there are also dedicated forums to the most popular lesbian shows like The L Word, Pretty Little Liars, Lost Girl, Grey's Anatomy, Glee, and Bomb Girls.
But what about the dating, and the hookups, right?
While there aren't any sub-forums specifically for finding dates, there are forums where people can discuss dating, their sexuality, where to meet women, and like I mentioned, you can get creative in the crushes section. Don't cramp my style though!
If you're feeling bold, you might even consider writing a post in the "Introductions" section, with a bit of information about you, and putting it out there that you'd love o meet someone for a little fun if there's anyone who lives near you.
So far I've had lots of success mixing things up, and the vibe that I get from the membership is that most are very much interested in hooking up with someone on the forum.
FEATURES:
While you might expect the forums on a big blog like AfterEllen.com to be stuffed to the brim with fancy features that a lot of smaller LGBT dating forums can't really afford to implement without a complete overhaul, there's an interesting twist with the forum, and how it works with the blog.
It sort of doesn't. The people who run AfterEllen want people to use the forums of course, but they also need their readers to be engaged with the actual stories, and to comment on the blog posts and their social media shares.
There ARE some great features on the AfterEllen.com forums though, including:
-An incredibly attractive forum theme that puts most other LGBT dating forums to shame
-Check to see who and how many other members are reading the forum at the same time as you with the "Members Online Now" display
-Subscribe to your favorite After Ellen forums via RSS feed
-Even though the forum feels like a different site, you can follow After Ellen on social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram directly from the forum homepage
-Submit your own fan fiction and creative writing in the forum's writing forums, and some of the After Ellen staff may even read it
-A forum specifically for lesbian/bi women of color
-Stay up to date with the latest updates being implemented on AE, and often find out about site changes before their announced on the site-proper
-Forum statistics make it easy to know just about anything you want to know about the forum's statistics
